A Whole New World

What a day…

Today completes my 34th revolution around the sun. I’m not a fan of planning anything for my birthday. This year, I put in the effort and planned to launch this site on my birthday. Even began writing the first post a month in advance. Aside from that, I had only planned to have a pretty chill day, grab some food at a favorite Hawaiian BBQ restaurant here in Houston and return home to chill tonight.

This was NOT the case. The previous night consisted of a Zoom call with great conversations with friends I do ministry with. The call started around 8:30pm and I tapped out around 2am. Don’t get me wrong, I love having deep conversations and sharing faith, testimonies and random stories with each other. I did not mind staying up late for these conversations knowing full well I still had work the next morning.

Work day began and it was nothing short of chaotic. Everything that could have gone wrong, did. Even my computer decided to crap out on me right before a meeting with the Assistant Director of Hemotology/Oncology to discuss a medication workflow issue that I was trying to resolve. There were a few financial audit analysts that disagreed with a few of my weekly inventory decisions and decided to let me know in some strongly worded emails. Everything I did seemed difficult. Despite all of this going on, I was still at peace. This was a kind of peace that the Bible talks about. The peace that surpasses all understanding.

Was it because it was my birthday? Because it was a special day, I wasn’t going to let it impact my moods, feelings, actions in a negative way. That I wasn’t going to let a few bad moments ruin this day.

This was when that still small voice came in and said “Why can’t you apply this mentality to all the days? What makes one day you live more special than another?”

The lesson I learned to day even when all the bad things were happening I chose to not let it impact me. It doesn’t mean that I am ignoring all the bad things that are happening, I just wasn’t going to let it bring down my mood and prevent me from doing my job at work. I think the same can be said about our lives. Life is going to happen to us no matter what mood we are in. We are all living in a new world. This global pandemic has changed the normal: Cancelled travel, closed businesses, lost jobs. Wholesomeness is even hard to find on the internet. Despite all the things happening around us, we shouldn’t let it shake us or keep us from our purpose or calling in life.

Today actually became a memorable day versus a day I wanted to quickly forget. Today I was reminded that each day that is given to us is special. Don’t waste it. I wasn’t going to let a few minutes ruin a day. Don’t let a few bad days ruin a week or a few bad months ruin a year. You get the point.

I hope this message reads well. I had scheduled a whole other post to happen at 7pm, but I think today’s post would have spoken louder than what was originally planned. Lastly, I want to thank you for stopping by and taking a read. This wasn’t the start to the blog I had in mind, but it was definitely part of a bigger plan.

Love you all. Be blessed.

I enjoyed this post, it is definitely relatable . As I read this you created a picture of what it means to die to the flesh in a different way. I cant wait to read the next one.

  2. This is the perfect post to give others hope. We are all searching for something: peace, love, security, normalcy, etc. I have to say that at the end of the day Peace does put all things together each day. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and being so open to allow others to know that are not alone.

  3. Amen!!! Peace is so important and I love your outlook. I think this year just adjusted our lenses. We had been looking at things the wrong way. The pandemic caused us to reflect and reevaluate. I’m excited to see what transpired as you explore a Honu World!
